Research interests
Research focus
Cancer remains a devastating disease and requires a great effort in its multiple chemical, biological and medical aspects.
Our main research interests are on the discovery and development of novel anticancer drugs. Computational drug design, organic synthesis (economically and environmentally friendly) and experimental screening bioassays are our main tools of work.
The focus of our research is on breast cancer, with a major emphasis on estrogen-dependent cancers.
Aromatase, the enzyme responsible for the biosynthesis of estrogens, is a very important therapeutic target. Studies aiming for new drugs and the understanding of the role of natural compounds and estrogen metabolites in aromatase function are main lines of ongoing research.
